Yomna Omara: The 8th Baheya Breast Cancer Conference

The 8th Baheya Breast Cancer Conference

Between the excitement of AORTIC- Africa and welcoming the ACS Global to Baheya, I haven’t had a proper chance to reflect on the 8th Baheya Breast Cancer Conference (BBCC) in October.

It was a truly exceptional two days, showcasing collaborative excellence and a shared vision for improved cancer care. While serving as a medical coordinator at the BBCC for the 5th year is always a great pleasure, I also had the chance this year to organize the Patient Navigation session in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO):

“Navigating the Future of People-Centric Care”

It was a dynamic regional dialogue. We were honored with the presence of Dr Hatem Ameen who highlighted the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s significant role through the Presidential Initiative on Women’s Health. Dr. Lamia MAHMOUD further presented the WHO EMRO initiatives, focusing on the GBCI patient navigation brief. While I had the chance to mention Baheya’s role in the People Centric Care and achievement of GBCI pillar 3 through Baheya Patient Navigation Program.

And I can’t forget the beautiful Nahed El Saady, our patient’s voice during the session for her amazing talk.
The panel discussion on regional approaches was led by Dr. Taha M. Mehemed and we were honored to have Dr Reem Al-Ajlouni ريم العجلوني joining us virtually reflecting on Jordan Breast Cancer Program and King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center experience.

Follwing this, a key highlight was the high-impact Patient Navigation Workshop, skillfully designed by our amazing managers, Radwa El-Seidy and Aya Mostafa. This collaborative, solutions-oriented case based session brought together regional stakeholders to tackle key barriers in cancer care through focused roundtables with a panel of experts, including:
Dr Nima Abid, WHO representative in Egypt, Dr Lamia MAHMOUD, Dr Mohamed Ehab Khalil, Basma Rashad, Sandy Adel, Esraa L-Sayed, Dr Afaf Salah, Dr. Neama Abd Elfattah Abd Elgawad, Dr Nagat Sayed.

The level of collective commitment to tangible, actionable change has provided us with a high-value roadmap for the future.
A special note of gratitude to our dear friend, Heba AlSawahli.

Thank you to all the leaders, speakers, and participants including Mrs. Laila Salem, Dr. Mohamed Emara , Dr. Dr.Amgad Hashim, and Dr. Maher Hassan who is not only my mentor in surgery, for making this conference a landmark event for women’s health in the region.”
