Yasmine Hassan, Director of Global Oncology Policy, Advocacy, and Health Equity at AstraZeneca, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“If detected early, uterine cancer can have a 95% 5-year survival rate. But for women diagnosed late, survival rates may fall below 20%.In some parts of the world, lack of diagnostic tools, limited access to specialists, and financial barriers to care make this gap even wider. These inequities are unacceptable. A woman’s chances of survival should not depend on where she lives, her income, or the stigma attached to gynecological health.
This year’s United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting has put noncommunicable diseases firmly on the global agenda – an important step for health equity. As we advance that conversation, we must also ensure uterine cancer is included, so no woman is left behind.
At the 2025 Concordia Annual Summit, the position paper on uterine cancer ‘Spotlight on uterine cancer: Shaping access to equitable and high-quality care’ sponsored by AstraZeneca, was launched setting out urgent priorities:
Address stigma that stops women from seeking care
- Invest in diagnostic infrastructure and molecular testing
- Expand equitable access to different care options
- Integrate uterine cancer into global and national health agendas
International Gynecologic Cancer Society , European Society of Gynaecological Oncology , ESGO ENGAGe , Society of Gynecologic Oncology , The Foundation for Women’s Cancer , Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) , ECANA Women Endometrial Cancer Action Network for African-Americans, HaBait Shel Bar – Israel’s Women’s Cancer Association (RA) , Egyptian Gynecological Oncology Society, and Peaches Womb Cancer Trust have joined forces with AstraZeneca to co-author this paper and ensure women at risk of, or living with, uterine cancer are no longer left behind.
Every woman deserves the chance for early diagnosis and the best possible care. Together, let’s bring uterine cancer out of the shadows.
