Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“UICC’s “Lunch & Learn” sessions foster knowledge exchange and collaboration across teams, offering staff a space to share insights and strengthen their understanding of cancer control issues.
In the latest session, Yannick Romero and Emily Norma Joynes presented the evolving tactics of the tobacco industry and UICC’s advocacy to protect youth from nicotine addiction.
Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of cancer, responsible for 25% of all cancer deaths and over 8 million lives lost annually.
Today, novel products like e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches are aggressively marketed to young people – with over 100 million users worldwide, including 15 million children, according to the World Health Organization.
The session also spotlighted UICC members in Kenya and Uganda, who are driving progress through tobacco taxation – helping to reduce consumption, protect youth, and strengthen health systems.
