Yan Leyfman, Medical Oncologist, Co-Founder and Executive Director of MedNews Week, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New evidence highlights the power of the patient voice in oncology.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 69 RCTs including 44,030 patients found that patient-reported outcomes (PROs) offer independent prognostic value for overall survival.
Better baseline scores in:
• Global health status
• Physical functioning
• Role functioning
were each linked to improved survival.
Higher symptom burden
(nausea/vomiting, pain, fatigue, appetite loss, dyspnea)
was associated with worse overall survival.
Meaning: PROs capture clinically meaningful insights beyond traditional endpoints and can strengthen risk stratification, guide personalized treatment, and elevate patient-centered care.”
