Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General at World Health Organization, shared on X:
“If it isn’t safe, it isn’t care.
For people living with heart disease, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory disease, care is lifelong. A delayed diagnosis, wrong medicine, unsafe procedure or poor communication can cost lives.
Access to care matters. Safety matters just as much.
Everyone deserves safe care, for life.
‘World Patient Safety Day is an annual reminder that if it’s not safe, it is not care.
This year, we are shining a light on safe care for noncommunicable diseases.
People with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory disease need care throughout their lives. Every interaction with the health system comes with benefits and risks.
A delayed diagnosis, the wrong medicine, an unsafe procedure, or poor communication can have deadly consequences.
Safe care must be built into every stage of the care journey, from prevention and early diagnosis to treatment, long-term management, and self-care.
Everyone has a role to play in making that happen: governments, health leaders, health workers, civil society, and patients themselves.
Access to care is important, but not enough. All people with NCDs deserve safe care for life.'”
