Will Parsons: How the Periwinkle Arts in Medicine Program Brings Creativity to Pediatric Cancer Care

Will Parsons, Director of the Pediatrician-Scientist Residency Training Program and Professor at the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, and Interim Director of Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“One of the most rewarding parts of our work is seeing creativity bring joy to children facing cancer or serious blood disorders. Over the past year, 43 patients and siblings at Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center collaborated with artist-teachers from Aurora Picture Show through the Periwinkle Arts in Medicine Program to create Wild Planet – a stop-motion animated film that premiered in our outpatient clinic.

Participants imagined exploring distant planets and discovering new species, designing creatures like the Frogasaurus Rex, Turtlesaur, and Unicorn Mermaid.

Watch the film and celebrate these incredible creators.

Texas Children’s Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are joining forces to launch the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center in 2026. Learn more.”
