Will Parsons, Director of the Pediatrician-Scientist Residency Training Program and Professor at the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, and Interim Director of Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We recently wrapped up the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Quality and Safety (PHOQS) Conference, a two-day gathering dedicated to advancing safety and quality for children with cancer and blood disorders.
We were honored to host Dan Hyman as keynote speaker. His address on leadership and participation in panels on rounding and safety culture sparked discussion on implementing safety strategies in pediatric hematology-oncology programs.
The conference also featured a multidisciplinary PHOQS Nursing/Advanced Practice Provider Workshop led by experts from St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s (including Shelby Boone and Jill Sarro). Projects highlighted included Children’s Hospital Early Warning Score (CHEWS) (Fan Fan Shen; Shelby Boone) and the Lovenox Better Education Super Team (BEST) initiative (Mary Shapiro; Sarah Sartain).
Congratulations to PHOQS Leader Awardees Emily Mueller, and Meera Rayar, for their outstanding contributions. And a heartfelt thank you to Northwestern Mutual for supporting the event.
Texas Children’s Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are joining forces to launch the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center in 2026.
