Proud to Have Dr. Kurt Oettel Provide Testimony in Support of Assembly Bill 173 ‘Cole’s Law’ – WAHO

Wisconsin Association of Hematology and Oncology (WAHO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“WAHO was proud to have Dr. Kurt Oettel provide testimony in support of Assembly Bill 173 ‘Cole’s Law’ before the Assembly Committee on Health.

As Dr. Oettel shared, ‘Cancer is a diagnosis that patients never anticipate… it brings with it not just a medical crisis, but a life-altering emotional and financial burden.’

Patients depend on timely, uninterrupted treatment yet pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) policies can delay care, disrupt therapies, and override clinical judgment in effect, ‘practicing medicine without a license.’

WAHO strongly supports AB173, particularly provisions that prohibit co-pay accumulator programs, pharmacy steerage, mid-year formulary changes, and gag clauses. These common-sense protections preserve the patient-physician relationship and help ensure patients continue receiving the appropriate therapy without harmful disruptions.

We thank lawmakers for considering this critical legislation to protect cancer patients and uphold the integrity of their care.”Proud to Have Dr. Kurt Oettel Provide Testimony in Support of Assembly Bill 173 'Cole’s Law' - WAHO
