Scaling Human Genomics in Kenya: Building Capacity, Data, and Health Impact.

This session will be delivered by Dr. Eva Aluvaala, Senior Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Head of the Human Identification Laboratory.

Dr. Aluvaala holds a PhD in Biochemistry (Human Population Genetics), and her work focuses on developing a human mitogenome reference database for the Kenyan population, with applications in human health, anthropology, and forensics.

Her research contributes to building national genomic resources and advancing genomics initiatives in Kenya. She is also a founding member of the Human Genetics and Genomics Society of Kenya, where she currently serves as Acting Chair.
