Wafaa M Rashed: Congratulations to Iyanu Ojebode Deborah on the Publication of Her First Blog

Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“From awareness to action – and from knowledge to impact.

We are proud to celebrate Ms. Iyanu Ojebode Deborah, Medical Laboratory Scientist at McPherson University, Nigeria, and a graduate of the 15th cohort of the PAPERI Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course, on the publication of her first blog:

“From Awareness to Action: Strengthening Civil Society Advocacy in Africa’s AMR Response.”

In this powerful and timely piece, Deborah challenges us to rethink how we approach antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Africa. She reminds us that science alone is not enough – real change happens when evidence is translated into advocacy, and advocacy into policy action.

Her message is clear and urgent:

  • AMR is not just a scientific issue – it is a societal challenge
  • Civil society, media, and communities are essential drivers of change
  • Effective communication is the bridge between data and decision-making
  • Collective action is the only path toward sustainable solutions

This blog is more than a publication – it is a call to action for all of us working across research, policy, and community engagement to come together and build a stronger, more accountable response to AMR in Africa.
At PAPERI, we are incredibly proud to see our trainees transforming knowledge into leadership, and learning into impact.
