Wafaa M Rashed: Another Powerful Voice From Zambia in Genomics Policy Advocacy

Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Another Powerful Voice from Zambia in Genomics Policy Advocacy

Following the inspiring blog by Ms. Mary Mwanza, we are proud to spotlight yet another emerging voice from Zambia – this time from the scientific community.

Dr. Cornelius Chigali, a graduate of the 15th cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course by PAPERI, shares a compelling reflection on the ethical foundations required to advance genomics in Africa.

In his message, Dr. Chigali emphasizes:

  • The central role of ethics in genomics practice
  • The importance of confidentiality, privacy, and informed consent
  • The need for transparent and accountable systems to build public trust
  • The urgency of developing strong national policies to prevent discrimination and misuse of genetic data

His reflection reinforces a critical truth: Scientific advancement must go hand-in-hand with ethical responsibility and policy readiness.

At PAPERI, we are proud of this growing awareness and momentum.

This is how change begins – through informed, passionate advocates driving impact across the continent.

Let this spirit spread – across borders, across disciplines, across generations.
