“Celebrating the Completion of the ClinGen–PAPERI Genomics Workshop
Today we celebrate the successful completion of the ClinGen–PAPERI Virtual Training Workshop on Variant Interpretation and Clinical Genomics — a truly inspiring journey shared with participants from across Africa and beyond, representing over 35 countries.
I am deeply grateful to Dr. Marina DiStefano, (Broad Institute & ClinGen) for her exceptional leadership throughout the programme. Her clarity, depth of knowledge, and dedication to answering every question made this workshop a transformative learning experience for all of us. We are especially thankful for her openness in guiding institutions that wish to build similar genomics capacity in their own countries.
A special thank you to the ClinGen community for their continued commitment to global collaboration, education, and equitable access to genomic knowledge. Your support helped bring this initiative to life.
To our incredible participants:
Your engagement, discipline, and thoughtful questions throughout all four weeks were truly inspiring. You showed what is possible when passionate scientists, clinicians, and researchers come together with a shared purpose—to strengthen precision medicine, empower genomics education, and improve health outcomes in your communities.
This workshop is not the end—it is the beginning.
Each of you now carries the responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the next generation of genomic knowledge, research, and clinical implementation in your countries. Africa and the global South are entering a new era of genomic medicine—and your leadership matters.
‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ — Nelson Mandela
Congratulations to everyone who completed the programme.
Let’s continue learning, collaborating, and building the future of genomics together.
Dr. Wafaa M. Rashed
