“Voices of the families post number 45 – Ajebneh and his mother.
Meet Ajebneh and his mother. They come from the Abrha Jira district in Ethiopia—about 150 kilometers from the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH), the region’s only cancer treatment center.
Ajebneh lives with his parents and six siblings and is the sixth child in the family. They rely on farming for their livelihood.
About six months ago, he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (eye cancer).
To help ease their financial burden, Ajebneh was enrolled in the Zero Abandonment from Start to Finish Cash Transfer Program.
Now, Ajebneh is nearing the completion of his treatment, and his prognosis is encouraging. As his mother shared,
‘We sold our only two dairy cows to pay for his treatment, he needed all the support he could get, and we are glad his condition is improving.’
Appropriate consent given.”
