Vlad Lupu, ESMO Certified Oncology Resident at Oncohelp Oncology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Really excited to be back for the third time at American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Congress, the five days that I consider my own “Christmas’ Eve”, the most exciting time of the year.
The Early Breast Cancer Oral Abstract Session, held today, was full of though provoking and enticing data, as it should be.
- The most discussed abstract was definitely the OPTIMA trial, bringing forward Prosigna-guided adjuvant treatment for ER-positive breast cancer, and more specifically, including the 4-9 positive lymph nodes population. While the non-inferiority has been demonstrated, it is still unclear if the mandatory OFS in pre-menop pts is a big driver and, very important, if the data can be applied to the population of 4-9 positive LN, where the number of events is still very low.
- lidERA pre- and postmenopausal data was presented by Peter Schmid, underlining the future difficulties in choosing the ideal adjuvant treatment for these intermediate-risk patients who may also be eligible for adjuvant CDK4/6 inhibition. Even with these in mind, the highlight of the session was -definitely- the discussant’s talk, masterfully given by Dr. Martine Piccart, a savouros 13 minutes delivered impeccably.
- The surgical part of this session was deeply informative, with new data from SENOMAC, PREPEC and AXSANA all contributing in equal parts. And I must commend the trial teams of SENOMAC and AXSANA for reporting the histology of the tumors, something that unfortunately was not the case with previous trials in this session.
Finally, I am deeply grateful to be able to be here again, with the help of the opportunity given by the very important Residents’ Annual Examination, through which Societatea Nationala de Oncologie Medicala din Romania allows young oncologists in training to take part in the most important Oncology conferences in the world, based on their performance. Investing in young, talented prospects is the most efficient way to increase the quality of care offered by the future generations.”
