Vivek Subbiah, Chief of Early-Phase Drug Development at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Delighted to have witnessed the launch of the International Alliance for Personalised Medicine Oncology pillar International Alliance for Personalised Medicine around the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting together with Denis Horgan, Ph.D Paolo Marchetti, Manmeet Ahluwalia, MD, MBA, FASCO and all in the broader IAPM Board.
The energy in the room reflected the moment oncology is in: science is moving at extraordinary speed, and personalised medicine is now reshaping how we understand, diagnose, treat, and monitor cancer.
ASCO has shown just how fast the field is changing. In RET fusion-positive lung cancer, adjuvant selpercatinib points to the power of matching the right therapy to the right molecular profile earlier in the disease pathway. In breast cancer, data supporting the omission of axillary lymph node dissection in selected patients shows another side of progress: not only treating more precisely, but also reducing unnecessary harm.
That is the real promise of personalised oncology.
The right test. The right patient. The right treatment. The right time.
As we look ahead, including to our United National General Assemby focused event in New York on September 23/24, the message is clear: IAPM is becoming the place where science meets politics in the personalised medicine era.
The IAPM Oncology Pillar has been created to help drive that conversation connecting science, medicine, regulation, policy, and patient access.
A packed room, a strong launch, and an important step forward.”
