Vivek Ghosh: Can Patients Access the Treatments That Already Have the Potential to Cure Them?

Vivek Ghosh, Clinical Oncologist at Birat Cancer Institute, Nepal, Member of Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Honoured and humbled to present our work on Global Oncology Perspective regarding Availability and Affordability of Curative Intent Anticancer Therapies as an oral presentation at American Society of Clinical Oncology 2026.

While oncology continues to advance into the era of precision medicine, this study highlighted a fundamental question: Can patients access the treatments that already have the potential to cure them?

Our findings reinforced that access to essential anticancer medicines remains a major challenge across many countries, and it was insightful to learn that similar disparities persist even in high-income settings. As we celebrate innovation, we must also ensure that proven, life-saving therapies remain accessible and affordable for all patients.

This is not just a local issue—it is a Global Oncology priority.

I am deeply grateful to the ASCO Scientific Committee for providing this opportunity to share our work on a global stage. Special thanks to my mentor, Dr. Saroj N., for his invaluable guidance throughout this project, and to Dr. Bishal Gyawali for his thoughtful discussion and insights during the session.

A particularly proud moment was sharing the same platform by 2 Nepali oncologists at one of the world’s most influential oncology meetings. Representing Nepal on this global stage was truly a surreal and unforgettable experience.

Grateful. Inspired. Motivated to continue advocating for equitable cancer care.”
