“Satellite Symposium of the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center during the SOGESP Congress, provided a very important discussion on women’s health and cancer screening.
The meeting provided an excellent exchange with gynecologists about the fundamental role that these specialists play in the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer, incorporating cancer screening into daily practice.
I had the pleasure of teaching the class on colorectal cancer screening, especially highlighting:
- The epidemiology of colorectal cancer in women and its growing relevance;
- Who should be screened and from what age;
- The different screening strategies, including fecal occult blood testing and colonoscopy;
- The identification of patients at higher risk;
- And, mainly, the impact of screening on the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease.
Colorectal cancer is among the most frequent tumors in the female population, and expanding access to screening also involves the involvement of different specialties.
The gynecologist, often responsible for the periodic follow-up of women over decades, occupies a privileged position to remember, guide and encourage colorectal cancer screening.
More than talking about an exam, we need to strengthen a culture of prevention. Tracking is prevention. Diagnosing early is increasing the chances of cure.
