“Vincristine, a common chemotherapy drug used in childhood cancer treatment, saves lives, but it can also cause painful side effects like nerve damage that sometimes forces treatment to stop.
At Indiana University, Dr. Jennifer Belsky, with support from a $330,000 St. Baldrick’s Scholar Grant, is exploring a new way to detect this damage early – through a simple blood test. Her research could help more kids safely complete their cancer treatment.
