Vincent Rajkumar, Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Editor‑in‑Chief at Blood Cancer Journal, shared a post on X:
“Top 10 healthcare problems I hear from patients:
-High cost of insurance premiums
-High out of pocket costs even if you have insurance
-Not sure whether insurance will cover or not
-Delays and denials in care due to prior auth
-Can’t reach the doctor easily
-Can’t get appointments and tests done in time
-Hospitals in small towns closing down (longer distances for care)
-Doctors overworked and not able to spend time
-Paperwork before, during, and after care
-No peace of mind due to the above All of these are getting worse.
Few of these issues can be solved by AI and stuff. What we need is real leadership and reform on the major issues: coverage, affordability, access, which if done right should not cost more than we already spend. There are many competing interests. Physicians have very little say in it. We spend so much and yet things are not ideal for our citizens which makes me sad.”
