“As Chief of Oncology, I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to expand access to high-quality cancer care in a fast-growing region. This combination brings real resources to that mission: a $2 billion investment in our people, facilities, technology, and services, along with a $150 million Wake County Whole Health Program aimed at improving health beyond hospital walls. Just as important, the strengthened charity care commitment raises the bar for how we care for our most vulnerable patients, ensuring access regardless of ability to pay.
For our patients, this means more capacity, more specialized services, and more innovation on the horizon — including expanded opportunities in oncology and beyond. For our indigent and underserved populations, it means a stronger safety net and a system that has affirmed, in writing, its commitment to them.
There is still work ahead as this moves through regulatory review, and trust will be earned through action, not announcements. But today’s vote is a meaningful step toward a healthcare future that serves everyone in our community better.”
