“Spoke at the National Dissemination Workshop: A Move Towards Equitable Cancer Care Coverage (FinCan Study Findings), organized by Dr Abhishek Shankar.
Cancer is fast-becoming an every-household reality. And the financial toxicity of a diagnosis is pushing millions into lifelong indebtedness.
I made the case for a dedicated cancer care financing approach – not piecemeal, not incremental.
We need end-to-end coverage:
- Prevention (including pollution control)
- Screening
- Diagnosis
- Treatment
- Rehabilitation
Targeted therapies, immunotherapies, mental health and fertility support are not luxuries – they must be standard of care.
Investing in cancer care is not a sunk cost. I’m living proof.
Investing in health is investing in the economy and society – with returns that multiply far beyond the initial spend. We must stop treating it as mere expenditure.”
