“Strengthening cancer systems with City Cancer Challenge (C/Can)
Last week, I had the privilege of participating in the Abuja City Program of the City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) contributing across key technical discussions on health systems coordination, cancer data frameworks, and radiotherapy capacity.
Representing Call Off Cancer Initiative (COCI) as an Output Coordinator, engaging conversations on strengthening cancer data systems – particularly around cancer registration practices, data quality, and interoperability between health facilities and the Abuja Cancer Registry.
Across sessions, one message remained clear: improving cancer outcomes in Nigeria is not only about expanding services, but about building systems that are coordinated, data-driven, and centered around the patient journey.
From strengthening referral pathways and patient navigation, to addressing gaps in radiotherapy capacity and workforce development, these discussions are critical steps toward a more responsive and equitable cancer care system.
At COCI, we remain committed to bridging these gaps – through advocacy, community engagement, and digital health innovations that connect patients to timely care.
Grateful to be part of a growing movement working to transform cancer care in Abuja and beyond led by our amiable and high-achieving city manager, Chris Chukwunyere.”
