Ulrika Årehed Kågström: Digitalisation and AI Transforming Cancer Care

Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Secretary General of Cancerfonden, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It’s truly inspiring to see how digitalisation and AI are transforming cancer care. The progress is remarkable, but the challenges are still immense.

Today, access to qualified cancer diagnostics, treatment and care remains deeply unequal. To give just one example: in high-income countries, one radiation machine serves around 120,000 people. In low-income countries, the same machine may serve five million.

That is unacceptable.

We must ensure that more people can access the treatments that already exist.

One promising initiative is C4 – Comprehensive Cancer Centres in the Cloud. Imagine if every patient could access world-class diagnostics, expert second opinions and tailored treatment plans – no matter where they live.

It was inspiring to hear so many different perspectives on what we can achieve if, and when, C4 becomes reality.

I’m leaving Boston filled with optimism and determination. More convinced than ever that we can take bold new leaps forward in the global fight to beat cancer.

Thank you, Wil Ngwa, for inviting me to speak at the Hope+ Global Health Summit at MIT/Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center.
