Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Secretary General of Cancerfonden, shared a post on LinkedIn by Cancerfonden, adding:
“When the car is to be inspected, we leave nothing to chance. Early detection of a problem can be crucial. But how often do we do the same thing with our own body?
Many people – especially men – wait too long to seek care, even though they feel that something is not right. And when cancer is detected late, treatments are often tougher – and the chances of survival are poorer.
At Cancerfonden, we are constantly looking for new ways to achieve our goals. Therefore, it feels both meaningful and fun that we are now starting a collaboration with Bosse Bildoktorn and Bilprovningen.
‘When was the last time you inspected yourself?’ As of today, Bilprovningen’s customers all over the country face this question. Behind the message is Bosse Bildoktorn, who reminds us of the importance of taking your own health as seriously as the car’s.
A big thank you to Bilprovningen and Bosse Bildoktorn for wanting to be involved in driving this issue. Together, we can provoke thoughts – and get more men to seek care in time. It saves lives.”
Quoting Cancerfonden’s post:
“More men than women both fall ill and die of cancer – and too many wait too long to seek care. We want to change that.
That is why we at the Swedish Cancer Society are now starting a new initiative together with Bilprovningen and motor icon Bosse ‘Bildoktorn’ Andersson. At Bilprovningen’s nearly 110 inspection stations, visitors will not only be able to find out how the car is doing – but also take part in information about important cancer symptoms and where to turn if they are worried.
‘Through the collaboration with Bilprovningen and Bosse Bildoktorn, we have the opportunity to reach men in a new and somewhat unexpected context. We hope to be able to provoke thoughts, increase knowledge and get more men to contact the healthcare system or the Swedish Cancer Society’s cancer line if they feel worried,’ says our Secretary General Ulrika Årehed Kågström.
With this collaboration, we hope to be able to reach out to more men with information about how important it is to take the body’s warning signs seriously, contact healthcare in time – and thus increase the chance of surviving cancer.
More important information about men and cancer can be found here.”
