“The World Cancer Congress 2026 has officially begun!
Over 2,000 delegates from 120+ countries are in Hong Kong for the WCC2026.
Today’s Opening Ceremony featured welcome remarks from Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President, UICC, Dr Che-hung Leong, President, Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS), Dr Jie He, Director, National Cancer Center China and other dignitaries.
‘We will deliver a world-class event that will strengthen collaboration and accelerate progress in cancer control. By bringing global experts, policy makers and advocates together, the Congress will foster new partnerships, deeper knowledge sharing and capacity building and inform evidence-based policy for prevention, screening, and access to treatment.’ Dr Che-hung Leong, President of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society.
Participants enjoyed a traditional Dotting of the Eye Ceremony followed by a colourful Lion Dance performance.
Today’s programme also includes:
- A call to action by UICC and the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society in support of the World Cancer Declaration
- Sessions on the global state of cancer control, people-centred care, the opportunities AI presents, screening at scale and lung cancer, accelerating access to cancer care, cancer prevention
- Abstract presentations, rapid-fire sessions and Spotlight Stage talks
- The Global Village featuring Tai Chi sessions, a Chinese Traditional Pavilion, a Supportive Care Pavilion, a World Cancer Day exhibition and much more!
