FEMAMA Efforts Lead to Brazil Expanding Public Access to Genetic Testing – UICC

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

FEMAMA (the Brazilian Federation of Philanthropic Institutions for Breast Health), a UICC member, has played a central role in securing approval of BRCA1/2 testing within Brazil’s public health system.

BRCA testing analyses BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes to identify mutations that significantly increase the risk of developing breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreatic cancers.

FEMAMA President Dr Luiz Ayrton Santos Junior explains how a UICC-funded advocacy effort helped secure the inclusion of testing, opening the door to earlier, more personalised breast and ovarian cancer care.
