Reducing Risks of Cancer by Protecting the Skin From the Sun – UICC

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Protecting your skin from the sun is one way to help reduce your risk of cancer.

Too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, from the sun or artificial tanning devices, increases the risk of skin cancers, including melanoma.

Skin cancers account for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers in Australia each year, highlighting the importance of understanding how to reduce the risk.

Wherever you may be in the world, you can help protect yourself by:

  • Limiting time in direct sun, especially during peak UV hours
  • Wearing protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses
  • Using appropriate sunscreen and reapplying regularly
  • Completely avoiding UV tanning devices and sunbeds
