Smokers Should Be Supported to Quit, Not Pushed Towards E-Cigarettes and Vapes – UICC
Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Geneva takes a stand against disposable e-cigarettes.
The canton of Geneva has voted to ban the sale of single-use ‘puffs’ (vapes), acknowledging their incredibly harmful impact on health and the environment.
These products — often brightly coloured, with exotic flavours, and marketed to young people — contain addictive nicotine and carcinogenic substances, while generating huge amounts of plastic and chemical waste.
Children and adolescents who vape are more likely to become smokers and suffer poor health. Young people should never be encouraged to smoke or ‘puff’.
At the same time, smokers should be supported to quit with proven interventions — not pushed towards e-cigarettes and vapes, another tactic from the tobacco industry to keep people addicted.
Public health and sustainability go hand in hand. Policies like this protect future generations and the planet.
