A new chapter in patient care is unfolding in North Miami. The UHealth SoLé Mia Medical Center has officially opened its doors, bringing cutting-edge technology and world-class specialists under one roof. Among them are renowned physician-researchers from Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth — University of Miami Health Care, South Florida’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, ready to deliver advanced cancer care closer to home. Starting Oct. 27, all oncology providers will begin seeing patients at this modern facility, with patients from the Aventura satellite location transitioning to SoLé Mia.
Among the distinguished physician-researchers, Joseph Pizzolato, Elisa Krill-Jackson, Jose Lutzky, and Estelamari Rodriguez, are now offering their expertise at this new medical center, bringing advanced cancer care and research to patients in North Miami and surrounding areas within the multidisciplinary care model for which Sylvester is renowned.
“SoLé Mia is more than just a new building—it’s a new chapter in how we deliver cancer care,” said Javier Milian, associate vice president of oncology satellite operations at Sylvester. “By bringing our top physicians to this location, we’re ensuring that patients in North Miami, Aventura and beyond have access to the same level of care they would receive at our main campus.”
The 363,000-square-foot, seven-story medical center is designed to deliver high-quality, academic-based, multidisciplinary care in a modern, patient-centered environment. SoLé Mia serves as a beacon of innovation and compassion in cancer treatment, with several new features:
- Specific imaging and radiation oncology technology
- Support services including massage, acupuncture, nutrition, exercise physiology
- Additional clinical services, including lymphedema treatment
- Clinical trials

Dr. Joseph Pizzolato
Dr. Pizzolato is the medical director for Sylvester at SoLé Mia and ensures collaboration across disciplines. He is also a specialist in gastrointestinal and genitourinary malignancies and works closely with colleagues in surgical and radiation oncology to deliver seamless, integrated treatment.
“SoLé Mia is more than a development—it’s a declaration of intent. It shows what’s possible when health care, innovation and community come together. We’re not just building infrastructure; we’re building a future where wellness is woven into the fabric of everyday life,” he said.
Dr. Pizzolato is a triple-board-certified hematologist and oncologist, with certifications in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Pizzolato has extensive experience in clinical research, with an illustrious history of publication in high-impact journals.

Dr. Elisa Krill-Jackson
Joining Dr. Pizzolato is Dr. Krill-Jackson, a breast oncologist and researcher. Her clinical acumen and dedication to advancing clinical trials are instrumental in bringing leading-edge therapies to patients in the region.
“SoLé Mia represents the kind of visionary development that aligns with our mission at Sylvester—to bring leading-edge care and community-centered innovation together. It’s not just about buildings; it’s about building hope,” she said.
Dr. Krill-Jackson is deeply committed to patient education and empowering individuals to actively participate in their care journey. Her approach combines the latest state-of-the-art treatments and clinical trials with a compassionate focus on treating the whole person, addressing both physical and emotional needs. She notes that SoLé Mia has imported Sylvester’s multidisciplinary approach to care for breast cancer, as well as contrast mammograms and scalp cooling during chemo to prevent hair loss.

Dr. Jose Lutzky
Dr. Lutzky, a highly experienced oncologist specializing in melanoma and other skin cancers, also offers his expertise at SoLé Mia. With decades of clinical experience and active participation in national research initiatives, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the new facility. Together with Mario Sznol, M.D., a highly regarded new addition, Dr. Lutzky will be integral to establishing a leading regional immunotherapy program.
“SoLé Mia is a bold step forward—not just in expanding access, but in redefining what comprehensive cancer care looks like. It’s about bringing leading-edge therapies like tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy to the communities that need them most, and doing so with compassion, precision and purpose,” he said.
Dr. Jose Lutzky is a triple-board-certified hematologist and oncologist at Sylvester and is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Widely recognized for his expertise in melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma, Dr. Lutzky has built a distinguished career in oncology. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, he also brings extensive clinical research experience and has authored numerous articles and abstracts.

Dr. Estelamari Rodriguez
Dr. Rodriguez, a breast and thoracic oncologist recognized for her patient-first approach and leadership in lung cancer care, has expanded her work to SoLé Mia, ensuring patients receive personalized treatment plans informed by the latest research. Her presence at the new facility underscores Sylvester’s commitment to continuity of care and expanding access to top-tier specialists and clinical trials.
“Bringing our multidisciplinary lung cancer care model to SoLé Mia allows us to reach more patients in their own community with the same level of excellence and compassion they expect from Sylvester,” said Dr. Rodriguez. “I’m honored to be part of this expansion and look forward to helping patients navigate every step of their cancer journey, from screening to survivorship.”
Dr. Rodriguez is a board-certified thoracic oncologist who played a pivotal role in establishing the lung cancer care model at Sylvester. This collaborative approach brings together specialists from across disciplines, including cardiothoracic surgery, radiation oncology, pulmonary medicine and rehabilitation, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care from initial screening through diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support. She has a particular clinical focus on experimental therapeutics and malignant mesothelioma and is helping to expand access and improve early detection efforts.
Expanded Access
Together, these physicians represent the excellence of Sylvester’s clinical care and research. Their presence at SoLé Mia is part of a broader effort to expand access to cancer care across South Florida while maintaining the academic rigor and personalized attention that define Sylvester’s approach.
The recent opening of SoLé Mia marks a significant milestone in Sylvester’s expansion strategy, which includes new facilities in Doral, Fla., and the Kenneth C. Griffin Cancer Research Building in downtown Miami. These investments reflect a long-term vision to transform cancer care in South Florida by bringing it closer to where people live and work.
For patients, the message is clear: world-class cancer care is now more accessible than ever from trusted providers, powered by the excellence of academic medicine.
