“We had a great representation of UF Health Cancer Institute experts at the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology Rare Disease event in Tampa! Our own Leighton Elliott, was a co-chair of the program, which was part of the 2026 FLASCO Clinical Oncology Series and explored the evolving landscape of rare diseases in oncology.
Several UF Health Cancer Institute members shared their expertise on the unique challenges and emerging breakthroughs shaping care for patients with rare and complex malignancies.
Ashley Ghiaseddin, moderated a panel titled ‘Who Owns the Plan? Multidisciplinary Decisions in Rare CNS Tumors: Glioma & Ependymoma’ Alexandra De Leo, was a speaker on the panel.
Joanne Lagmay presented ‘Desmoid Dilemmas: Observation, Progression, and When to Act.’ In addition, Kristianna Fredenburg, was a panelist on ‘Mesothelioma in Practice: Applying New Data to Real Patients.’ Coy Heldermon, presented ‘Rare Diagnoses Hidden in Plain Sight: Lysosomal Storage Diseases in Oncology.’
