“New NIH Parent F99/K00 Funding Opportunity Now Available (PA-27-037)

The NIH has released a new parent F99/K00 Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award funding opportunity to support doctoral students as they complete dissertation research and transition to mentored postdoctoral research careers.

This new NIH parent NOFO includes several important changes designed to broaden access and increase flexibility for applicants and institutions.

Key Changes

  • No institutional nomination required.
  • No limit on the number of applications an institution may submit per application due date.
  • Predoctoral candidates should be 1-2 years from completing their doctoral degree by the requested start date.
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents by the time of award.
  • Up to 5 years of total support (up to 2 years for F99 phase and up to 3 years for K00 phase).

Application Dates

  • Earliest Submission Date: July 8, 2026
  • First Application Due Date: August 8, 2026
