But for patients and families, it is also experienced in the moments between: a difficult question answered clearly, symptoms recognised early, fear met with calm, and care coordinated when the system feels overwhelming.
This week, Cancer Nurses Day recognised the more than 8,200 cancer nurses across Australia.
Its theme, Strong, Skilled and Specialised gets the balance right.
Compassion matters deeply, but cancer nursing is also expert clinical practice, judgement, education, advocacy and leadership across every stage of cancer.
To cancer nurses across NSW and Australia: thank you. You make complex care safer, more human and more equitable.”
