Tracey O’Brien, Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of Cancer Institute NSW, shared on LinkedIn:
“Feeling like you have taken two steps forward, to only take two steps back, is what the life of a researcher can feel like.
But giving people options and hope, in the face of extraordinary adversity, is why those working in cancer research do what they do.
People like David, Fanny, Victoria and Flynn are here today because of decades of cancer research. Decades of innovation and discoveries that have helped shift the dial, leading to increased cancer survival rates, new and less toxic treatments and improved cancer care and survivorship.
Far too much remains unknown when it comes to cancer, but in NSW, I’m proud to be part of a cancer research network that refuses to settle for anything but excellence.
This World Cancer Research Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate the researchers working to find the answers we are all searching for, the people whose lives continue to be impacted by cancer and those who today have options and hope, thanks to cancer research.”
