“What information do people need when facing a rare cancer diagnosis?
Our research suggests that many women with vaginal and vulvar cancer are not getting the information they need at key points in their cancer journey.
Our findings highlight that:
- Many women were not satisfied with the information they received.
- Three-quarters of women reported moderate-to-high unmet information needs.
Some of the most common unmet information needs before diagnosis were:
- Whether the symptoms are normal or not.
- What action to take.
Other unique unmet information needs were for more information about:
- The specific type of cancer they had.
- Where the cancer was in their body.
Participants shared practical recommendations for improving information provision across the cancer care continuum.”
