“The role of cryotherapy in esophageal care continues to expand and the questions we are asking are becoming more ambitious.
At Advances and Innovations in Endoscopic Oncology and Multidisciplinary GI Cancer Care, we explored how liquid nitrogen spray cryotherapy may help address several priorities:
- Relieving difficulty swallowing.
- Improving quality of life.
- Integrating endoscopic treatment into multidisciplinary cancer care.
- Investigating whether cryotherapy before systemic therapy can improve tumor response.
Prospective studies support improvements in swallowing and quality of life in selected patients. The next frontier potential immune effects and enhanced response to cancer treatment requires randomized evidence. The COOL AID trial is an important step toward answering these questions.
For patients, being able to swallow and share a meal is a meaningful outcome. Advancing cancer care means keeping those everyday experiences central while rigorously studying new possibilities.
Thank you to STERIS Endoscopy for supporting research and education and helping advance the field of endoscopic oncology.”
