Toufic Kachaamy, Chief of Medicine and Director of Gastroenterology at City of Hope, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As I embark on a career transition, I find myself in a moment of gratitude and deep reflection.
Thirteen years ago, I began a journey with a simple goal: to care for patients and build something meaningful. I didn’t realize then how profoundly this experience would shape me, not only as a physician, but as a human being.
Every patient encounter, every difficult conversation, every moment of hope and heartbreak has left a mark. This journey has taught me focus, resilience, and humility. It has shown me, again and again, how fragile life can be and at the same time, how incredibly inspiring the human spirit is.
To our patients: thank you for trusting us in your most vulnerable moments. You have been my greatest teachers.
To City of Hope: thank you for being a place where compassion meets innovation, and where purpose is lived every day.
And to my extraordinary team: you are the heart of everything we built. Through challenges and triumphs, we stood together, grew together, and made an impact that goes far beyond what words can capture.
Together, we built more than a program we built a community, one that has grown into a nationally recognized center dedicated to advancing care and changing lives.
As I prepare to start a new chapter at Mayo Clinic, I carry with me not just memories, but lessons that have forever changed me. I leave more grounded, more grateful, and more committed than ever to the mission we all share.
For me, this is not just a transition, it’s a continuation of a purpose shaped by all of you.
Thank you for 13 unforgettable years.”
