“Cancer touches almost every Victorian family in some way, with 1 in 2 Victorians diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, the burden on our community and health system continues to grow.
Ahead of the 2026 Victorian State Election, Cancer Council Victoria is calling on all political parties to commit to bold, evidence-based investment that will prevent more cancers, detect cancer earlier, strengthen Victoria’s world-leading research and ensure every Victorian affected by cancer can access the support they need, regardless of where they live.
We know what works. Sustained investment in prevention, screening, research and care has saved more than 23,000 additional lives in Victoria over the past two decades. The next Victorian Government has an important opportunity to build on that progress.
Our priorities preventing more cancers through prevention initiatives and detecting cancers earlier.
We are also advocating investment to boost participation in bowel screening, and continued investment in the Victorian Cancer Biobank to accelerate biomedical and clinical research.
We are advocating improvements to support people affected by cancer, including expanding supportive care and strengthening support for those in regional and rural communities who often face additional barriers to care.
Every Victorian deserves access to world-class cancer prevention, treatment and support, no matter where they live. With the right investment and leadership, we can save more lives, reduce inequities and help more people survive and thrive after a cancer diagnosis.”
