Todd Harper, CEO at Cancer Council Victoria, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This month marks the 20th anniversary of the Victorian Cancer Biobank, one of the largest biospecimen repositories in the world, with over half a million cancer biospecimens and a 42,000+ donors.
Founded in 2006, the Biobank has supported nearly 400 research projects and 150 clinical trials.
At its heart are the tens of thousands of Victorians who have generously donated samples to support research. I recently caught up with one of the Biobanks’ tissue donors, John, who spoke about the value and importance of having a facility such as the Biobank. Every sample donated is a gift to cancer research and the future of cancer care.
With the support of the Victorian Government, our consortium partners – Austin Health, Eastern Health, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Monash Health, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – and with 14 participating hospitals, the Victorian Cancer Biobank has achieved remarkable statewide reach and impact.
This collaboration brings together clinicians, researchers, and patients across Victoria, helping to drive breakthroughs in cancer research and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer, now and into the future.”
