Todd Harper, Director of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), CEO of Cancer Council Victoria, and Chair of NCD Alliance Grant Oversight Sub-Committee, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I’m delighted to share that Melbourne has been selected to host the World Conference on Lung Cancer in 2029 – the world’s largest conference dedicated to the study and eradication of lung cancer.
This is an extraordinary recognition of Australia’s global leadership in lung cancer control. For decades, Australia has led the world in tobacco control and, more recently, in early detection with the launch of the National Lung Cancer Screening Program – a milestone initiative that stands to save thousands of lives.
With lung cancer remaining the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, bringing more than 6,500 leading researchers, clinicians, advocates, and policy leaders from over 100 countries to Melbourne will create a remarkable opportunity to accelerate progress.
Cancer Council Victoria welcomed the opportunity to work alongside the Melbourne Convention Bureau, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), and our government partners to help secure this significant event for Australia.
Melbourne is home to some of the world’s leading minds, research institutes, and cancer care organisations.
In 2029, we will welcome the global community to our city to share breakthroughs, strengthen collaboration, and move us closer to a future where fewer lives are lost to lung cancer.”
