“The World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Melbourne wrapped up last week. The Summit was a great opportunity to share knowledge across so many cancer organisations.
As the Summit wound up, I enjoyed catching up with Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, President-Elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), to reflect on the Summit.
Zainab spoke passionately about the inequities in cancer care, particularly those affecting First Nations people here in Australia, and shared how she plans to take these insights home to drive change.
Zainab highlighted the value of collaboration and knowledge-sharing at the Summit in Melbourne, and she spoke about Australia’s leadership in HPV vaccination and progress toward eliminating cervical cancer.
We are both delighted that the next Summit will take place in Nairobi, Kenya.
I am looking forward to working with Dr. Elias Melly, the National Cancer Institute of Kenya, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), and their partners to deliver an outstanding World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in 2027.
