Tilly Metz, Member of the European Parliament, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“20 years of collaboration to phase out animal testing.
Yesterday, I had the great honour to host the 20th anniversary event of the EPAA European Partnership for Alternative Approaches, together with my colleagues Niels Fuglsang and Sirpa Pietikäinen, and a very special guest, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
Bringing together different stakeholders through this long-standing public-private partnership — as well as fostering cross-political support – is essential for the transition to non-animal methods. This transition is not only an ethical imperative, but also a way to make testing faster, more efficient, and more directly relevant to human health.
Two decades after the launch of the EPAA, we are at a key moment for Europe’s transition towards humane and future-ready safety assessments, with the long-awaited Commission roadmap to phase out animal testing expected at the beginning of next year.
The EPAA will be a key player in implementing this roadmap, uniting regulators, industry, academia and civil society to make it a success.
A big thank you to everyone involved in organising this event – especially EPAA’s Zvonimir Zvonar and Charles Laroche, as well as Co-Chairs Giulia Del Brenna and Gavin Maxwell and congratulations!
