“Meet Sister Bimala Sharma, our medical partner who’s served as a Senior Staff Nurse at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Nepal for 20 years. Keep reading to learn more about her.

What does your partnership with The Max Foundation look like?

Since June 2018, my collaboration with The Max Foundation has revolutionized how we deliver care at our facility. This partnership represents more than just another program—it embodies hope for patients who might otherwise face insurmountable barriers to life-saving treatment.

Describe how partnering with The Max Foundation impacts your professional role:

Over the course of my partnership with Max, I have been privileged to support more than 1,850 patients through their cancer journeys. Each number represents a unique story of remarkable resilience.

The efficiency of The Max Foundation team continues to astound me: same-day approvals for new patient applications have become the norm rather than the exception. This rapid response transforms what could be weeks of anxiety-filled waiting into immediate relief and hope for patients and their families.

Describe a typical work week:

My daily workflow seamlessly integrates The Max Foundation protocols into comprehensive patient care. From Sunday through Friday, I begin each day by reviewing new communications, processing patient applications, and ensuring medication dispensation runs smoothly.

The technical aspects of my role include collecting vital samples and preparing Spot On cards for testing—critical components in monitoring treatment efficacy for our chronic myeloid leukemia patients.

What do you love most about where you live?

I am deeply rooted in the vibrant community of Bharatpur, a remarkable city nestled among pristine lakes and ancient temples. The city’s robust infrastructure—from healthcare facilities to educational institutions—creates an environment where both patients and healthcare professionals can thrive.

What’s your favorite way to unwind?

I find restoration through travel with family and friends, music that feeds my soul, and the simple pleasure of sharing traditional meals—particularly my beloved combination of rice, fresh vegetables, and homemade tomato chutney enriched with mint and authentic Nepali pepper.

What message would you like to share with patients and caregivers?

Every patient deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and supported through their most challenging moments. This is not just my professional philosophy—it is my personal commitment to every individual who walks through our doors seeking help, hope, and healing.”
