The Institute of Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It was a pleasure to host Baroness Margaret Ritchie at the ICR this morning, where she met Professor Luca Magnani and Dr Stephen John Sammut, who work in the Breast Cancer Now Toby Robins Research Centre.
Professor Magnani introduced the work of the Breast Cancer Epigenetics and Evolution Group, and their research examining the epigenetic landscape of cancer cells to identify critical vulnerabilities, particularly in dormant cancer cells. It was a powerful illustration of how fundamental discovery science expands our understanding of cancer and could help open up new avenues for treatment.
Dr Sammut, who is also a Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, shared insights from his Cancer Dynamics Group – including the BELIEVE study. The groundbreaking translational research programme aims to build a comprehensive picture of how breast cancers evolve during treatment, using AI to predict responses to therapy, understand resistance, and identify new drug targets.
We’re grateful to Baroness Ritchie for her continued support in championing The Institute of Cancer Research and the power of research to drive improvements in how we diagnose, treat and ultimately defeat cancer.”
