“The Institute of Cancer and Crisis (ICC) featured at the Beyond Sciences Initiative International Conference
On Saturday, 21 February 2026, The Institute of Cancer and Crisis (ICC) was featured in a Hot Doc Presentation during the second day of the Beyond Sciences Initiative (BSI) Remote International Conference.
The Beyond Sciences Initiative, a non-profit organisation based at the Department of Immunology at the University of Toronto has organised this conference for the 11th consecutive year. The programme brings together keynote lectures, scientific presentations, poster sessions, and Hot Doc segments that spotlight initiatives promoting equity in healthcare and research.
The ICC presentation was delivered by Dr. Christos Tsagkaris, ICC Board Member, who presented the evolution of the Institute since its establishment in 2022. The talk highlighted key milestones, including the 1st Global Summiton Warand Cancer and the ICC Manifesto on Improving Cancer Care in Conflict-Impacted Populations, while outlining current priorities for the organisation. These include deepening engagement with communities and widening collaboration across sectors addressing crisis-affected cancer prevention and control.
At a time when armed conflicts continue to generate profound health consequences for civilian populations, initiatives such as ICC aim to support coordinated, evidence-based responses to the health sequelae of conflict, guided by the principles of neutrality and humanitarian ethics.”
