Terisa Tamang: Creating a Safe and Joyful Space for Children Living With Cancer

Terisa Tamang, Founder, President and Counselor of Dhairya Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When we think about childhood cancer care, our focus is often on diagnosis, chemotherapy, medications, and survival. But what about the emotional well-being of children living with cancer?

In Nepal, mental health support for children undergoing cancer treatment remains limited, and art-based psychosocial interventions are still uncommon in cancer care settings.

Yet children experience fear, anxiety, loneliness, and disruption to their everyday lives throughout treatment. Through Dhairya Cancer Foundation, we are taking a small step to address this gap by organizing ‘Little Heroes: Colors of Hope’ an Art and Well-being Session for Children Living with Cancer on 7 June 2026.

The goal is simple: to create a safe and joyful space where children can express themselves, connect with others, and experience moments of hope during a challenging journey. As a psychosocial counselor, I strongly believe that supporting mental health should not be considered an extra service in cancer care it should be an essential part of comprehensive care. Every child deserves not only treatment but also hope, connection, and opportunities to simply be a child.

Looking forward to spending a meaningful day with these little heroes.”
