This Oncologist Started Learning AI at 60, Here’s How He Uses It!

He started his first YouTube video sitting in his home office with a laptop camera and no script. Today, some of those videos have 150,000 views.

In this episode, hosts Douglas Flora and Sanjay Juneja sit down with Francisco J. Esteva, a breast cancer specialist and researcher with over 200 published papers, to unpack how he built a second career explaining oncology to the patients who need it most.

Dr. Esteva didn’t set out to become a content creator. He saw a gap:

‘Most medical education speaks to other doctors, not to the patients living with the diagnosis.’

So at 60, with no technical background, he taught himself to script with AI tools, automate his editing workflow, and even build a system to triage YouTube comments so misinformation doesn’t go unanswered.

The conversation goes beyond the tech stack. It’s about why physicians already stretched thin by burnout are finding that a little time invested in learning these tools pays back in hours reclaimed, for patients, for family, for the parts of medicine that drew them to it in the first place.
