Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: Ghana Strengthens Its Commitment to Health for All

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General at World Health Organization, shared on Facebook:

“Health is the foundation of prosperity.

I commend President John Dramani Mahama for Ghana’s strong commitment to health, backed by increased domestic investment through the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

When we met earlier this week, the President also shared an update on the rollout of free primary health care in 150 districts this year, with plans to expand nationwide. The initiative will reduce out-of-pocket spending and bring health services closer to communities.

I reaffirmed World Health Organization (WHO)‘s commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts to achieve Health For All, and thanked the President for joining us in person at WHA79.

We also discussed the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC and the need for regional and global leaders to support the response while working towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict in eastern DRC.”
