Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: UN General Assembly Adopts Political Declaration on NCDs and Mental Health

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General at the World Health Organization, shared on X:

“Strong leadership shown at the UN General Assembly as Member States adopted the Political Declaration on noncommunicable diseases and mental health.

By setting bold targets to Beat NCDs—such as cancer, diabetes, and heart and lung diseases—and to promote mental health by 2030, countries reaffirmed their commitment to protecting people’s health from the world’s deadliest and most prevalent conditions.

The declaration commits to helping hundreds of millions more people reduce tobacco use, control hypertension, and access mental health care, through stronger policies, expanded primary health care, affordable services, and better surveillance.

Only by working together can we change the trajectory of NCDs and mental health—and deliver health, well-being, and opportunity for all.
