5 years back when I came to Varanasi, my native town – it was a dream we embarked on to introduce the field of minimally invasive cancer surgery in the region of Purvanchal.
3 years as consultant in Tata Memorial Hospital, Varanasi MPMMCC/HBCH VNS, I got the opportunity to carry forward the work of laparoscopic cancer surgery which was taught by Prof. Avanish Saklani at TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, Mumbai. Had a great time treating patients, and developing a department of MIS for GI cancers alongside Dr Amar Prem, Sriniket Raghavan.
Now, me and my team are trying to fine tune the delivery of Laparoscopic Cancer surgery at Upkar Hospital and Cancer Institute Varanasi. Very soon, we shall be introducing the field of Robotic cancer surgery in this economically underserved region – Purvanchal – of one of the largest democracies of the world. While Robotic cancer surgery is already well established in developed portions of the world and our country, the inequity to access and the cancer care / delivery gap is still huge.
At Upkar Hospital and Cancer Institute Varanasi, we are trying to close this care gap by providing access to advanced cancer treatment options at doorsteps to the population of Purvanchal ~ East UP, housing a huge underserved population. Speciality driven & organ based cancer care is still a dream, we aim to fulfil.”
