Susanna Fletcher Greer։ V Foundation-Funded Scientists Explore Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy and Personalized Treatment

Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:

“This Saturday in Washington, DC, I’ll have one of my favorite jobs: sitting down with two extraordinary the V Foundation-funded scientists and asking them to help us understand where cancer research is headed next.

At our Capital Epicurean Conversations for a Cure luncheon, Dr. Jamie Spangler and Dr. Srinivasan Yegnasubramanian, both at The Johns Hopkins University, will take us inside two very different, and incredibly exciting, areas of cancer research.

Jamie is engineering the molecules that control our immune system, with the goal of creating cancer immunotherapies that are more precise, more effective and less toxic.

She was a V Scholar, and her work is a wonderful example of what can happen when we invest early in innovative scientists and give them room to pursue bold ideas.

Vasan is tackling another question I think about all the time: with so many new cancer therapies becoming available, how do we make sure the right patient gets the right treatment?

His team is integrating genetic, molecular, imaging and clinical information, including advanced computational approaches and AI, to better predict cancer risk, improve diagnosis and personalize treatment.

I love these conversation because they remind us that ‘cancer research‘ isn’t one thing. It is immunology, engineering, genomics, computation, clinical medicine, and scientists bringing all of those disciplines together to solve problems for patients.

If you’re in DC this weekend, I hope you’ll join us.

And if you’re simply curious about where cancer research is going next, take a few minutes to learn about Jamie and Vasan and the work the V Foundation is helping make possible.
